Purchasing A Hybrid Car

Hybrid cars are having a tough time catching on. Hybrid car manufacturers make some boast claims. Everyone has heard the claims that the hybrid car will save the environment and help put an end to global warming. But are they for everyone?

Hybrid cars save lots of money on gas. You have heard that you will save thousands of dollars a year on gasoline with their excellent gas mileage. But just how much of this is true and which may be a slight exaggeration?

One of the biggest advantages of hybrid cars is its use of two power sources for its movement. Hybrid cars combine electric power sources and gasoline power sources. This is the most unique design to ever be successful in the automotive industry

This allows the car to stop using gasoline while idling and run on electric power only, and run on a combination of the two during normal city driving. Many would have you believe this is a perfect system and unnoticeably different from a standard car, this is an exaggeration.

Hybrid cars have advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that you will reduce your gasoline consumption considerably and it will have an impact on the fuel emissions released into the atmosphere.

The disadvantage is that hybrid cars can be a bit slow to accelerate and often have an annoying noise associated with the electric motor.

Currently most of the major car manufacturers are offering a cash incentive for buying a hybrid car. Another advantage for hybrid cars are the many purchase incentives available. Add that to the tax breaks you can get for owning a hybrid car, and that is a pretty nice savings you have for yourself.

Also, hybrids cars tend to be more reliable than standard model cars. Not only that but you will save money on gasoline purchases with the significant increase in mileage between fill-ups.

All cars break down. There is no exception will hybrids. However, they are generally warranted very well and you can save money on repairs.

Overall it seems that the hybrid car is a great investment to make. It will prove to be a reliable and environmentally friendly machine. These days there are no limitations on hybrid cars.

If you want an SUV or a luxury sedan, there is a more than decent hybrid alternatives. Enjoy the benefits that you can get and consider a hybrid car as one of your better options.

Whistler Radar Detector - A Non-Bias Review

In a life where time is never given back to you, we all strive to be as efficient as we can. Important business meetings, family emergencies, and last minute plans seem to have a way to intercede into our routine plans. Sometimes the only solution to getting everything finished is to speed. Unfortunately, however, law enforcers spend tons of gas money (or should I say tax money?) and time patrolling the pavement in pursuit of those of us who rush to get somewhere.

Fortunately for us speeders, there is a great invention that has been god-sent to help protect us - radar detectors. Before you go and purchase just any radar detector, you will want to get one that is going to protect you the most. Perhaps you have read a little about the Cobra radar detector. However, that is nothing compared to the Whistler Radar Detector. You get better performance at a third of the price.

Whistler is not like the other companies who intend to overprice products just to improve profits. This radar detector company is very serious about bringing together quality and affordability. These Radar Detectors are very powerful for their small price. If you are wanting to check out some of their new releases, consult the Whistler XTR-690 or the Whistler Pro 78.

Now you may ask yourself what would someone who owns one say about the product? Well I own one and I say that it is way better than my old Cobra, which cost me 400$! I can detect signals earlier, especially when I am speeding on the highway. I will hear my signal 3-5 seconds before I can even see a cop car in the distance - which is plenty of time to slow down.

Also, I really like how each of these radar detectors flash when there is an alert. I am addicted to loud music so sometimes I don’t hear the alerts. But when I see my Whistler Radar Detector flashing, I know to slow down. I know I’m guilty of speeding, I do it every day. But with my Whistler Radar Detector, I don’t worry so much. I like to think I’m a badass without the risk of getting caught.

Is the Shiny Car on the Lot Really Worth It?

This situation probably has happened to everyone: You’re driving along the road and you notice that your car doesn’t sound all that good. Before you realize what’s happening, your poor car takes its last gasps on the side of the road. You need a new car.

Television ads tell you that you need a new car. Although a new car does sound appealing, you’ve also heard from friends that buying a new car is a better idea in the long run. You’re faced with a tough decision. This article will look at the positives and negatives of buying new and used vehicles. This will help you pick the vehicle that’s meant to be yours.

The Glory of New

There’s something powerful about the looks of a brand-new car, all the way from the tantalizing smell to that shiny new paint. In this consumer culture, a new car is a symbol that tells everyone you have made it. There also are other benefits to buying a new car rather than a used car.

Positives:

Most new cars do have good reliability. The warranty also will likely cover any problems that do crop up. Buying a new vehicle also means that you shouldn’t have to worry much about how the vehicle was treated before it became yours.

A number of companies also have roadside assistance for new cars. This gives you peace of mind and can save you the expense of getting a roadside assistance program on your own.

New cars also usually have the highest fuel-efficiency standards and the newest safety features, like side-curtain airbags. You may also find a good financing program with either no interest or low interest rates. This can make it less expensive to buy a new car than it is to buy a used car.

Negatives:

Without a doubt, buying a new car is expensive. Most new cars cost more than used cars, and they depreciate very quickly in value. A new car loses the most value during the first few years that someone owns it.

The difference between what you paid for your car and what it is now worth can be substantial. According to the Kelley Blue Book, the MSRP (manufacturer’s suggested retail price) for a 2007 Ford Focus two-door hatchback is $14,335. The resale value for the same car is $11,995. The value has dropped about $2,300 just for driving the car off the lot.

Buying a new car therefore means that you are getting more debt and losing value more quickly than if you had bought a used car. You’ll also be paying more for car insurance than you would if you had bought a used vehicle.

There are also issues to think about on a deeper level. Buying a new car can contribute to the culture of consumption and not the culture of frugality. If you buy a new car, some would argue that you are buying into the consumerism culture. This can be an expensive proposition.

New cars also don’t stay new for very long. You eventually will find your first nick or scratch. Eventually, the floor will be stained, the doors will have dings, and you won’t have the thrill of having a new car. Your monthly payments will last much longer than your shiny new car.

A Humble Used Car

Although “pre-owned vehicles” - what the car dealers like to call a used car - don’t have the mystique and “shiny” factor of a new car, they are hard to top as a practical financial move. Buying a late model car with few miles can be a bargain seeker’s dream.

Positives:

Buying a used car helps you get the most amount of car at the lowest cost. A late-model used car often costs less than half the cost of a new car. Some dealers’ pre-certified programs come with good warranties. They often include the balance of the factory warranty and the opportunity to buy an extended warranty. Low-mileage, late-model used cars are almost new. You probably don’t notice the difference between a used and a new vehicle if you trade in your car every few years. Most modern cars can go 100,000 or more with few problems. You could probably get 60,000 more miles on a car with 40,000.

You can also buy a used car for only a few thousand dollars if you don’t have much cash and are willing to take a chance on a used car. Buying a care that needs a little tender loving care can cut the amount of money you need to spend on your “new” car.

Negatives:

Some used cars still have the stigma of being unreliable. There may always be a fear of buying someone else’s problem because you don’t know how its last owner treated the car, or why the last owner traded the car into the dealer. Even if the car is fine, you still need to perform maintenance sooner than you would on a new car. That maintenance will include radiator and transmission flushes, new tires, and new brakes.

It also may be difficult to find a used vehicle with the features you want. You also will have fewer options if you buy a lemon. Lemon laws usually only apply to vehicles under a certain age.

New or Used?

You should make your decision to buy a new or used vehicle based on many factors. You should be comfortable with your various financing options, as well as any long-term consequences. You need to feel safe and buy a vehicle that is reliable for your needs and meets your monthly expense budget. Your “new” car also needs to meet your requirements for amenities and features.

Label: P.a.m Cost Of Diesel Has Been Destroyed?

Consumers are facing inflation coupled with the rising gasoline and grocery prices. Cost of living is rising day by day. Inflationary pressures are forcing business houses to adjust their working as well. Recently I saw an article in the newspaper titled, aDiesel Costs Destroying P.A.Ma and I realized that consumer alone were not bothered with the rising prices of fuel.

Many companies are suffering the impact of inflation and are adapting and finding ways to profit. Some companies have got stuck in losses and are trying to come out of the mess. An article in a newspaper few days back bought to my notice the fact about diesel costs destroying P.A.M. This transportation company has reported a second quarter net income loss of $1.33 million this year. They had posted $2.19 million profit in the same period lasts year.

The cost of diesel contributed highest to their expenses in this quarter with an increase of about 6-cent per mile, after deducting fuel surcharges. Operating expenses of the company jumped 9.6 percent in the quarter mainly due to added fuel costs. This increase in expenses had an adverse impact on the companyas profit.

The company collected $26.24 million in fuel surcharges in the quarter and had fuel expenses to the tune of $43.12 million. They had $14.15 million in fuel surcharges a year back and their fuel expenses were $29.01 million. These adverse figures have had a serious impact on the revenues of the company.

The company had also reported a first-quarter loss of $2.8 million, down from a profit of $1.3 million during the same quarter last year. Operating income of the company has had a serious impact to the tune of $4.4 million. The decreasing truckload freight demand and competitive prices have resulted in sliding of rates. They are unable to negotiate rates and currently available rates are not acceptable in the high cost scenario.

To reduce costs, executive pay cuts and have to pay the family as a small, compared to last year. 8 cents per share, the company has recently lost a quarter of a loss. The cost of two large-dollar revenue 600,000 negative impact on the total amount received was fair.

The company closed PAM ’sParsippany, New Jersey terminal, which led to spare 300000 dollars paid to its employees. They had a legal settlement of $ 300000 resulting from the rehabilitation of the environment 1986 lawsuit. The local company truck Sacramento trucks and other leadership positions and jobs for truck drivers.

The company’s fuel-saving strategy is to focus on. The problem is that the cost of diesel PAM destruction? However, the authenticity of the company’s plans are to recover. The company plans to expand its customer base. They through the expansion of the non-automotive business, but in the fourth quarter, an increase of 13.4 percent for both business and retail consumer goods.

It Looks Like A Difficult Road Ahead For American Truckers

Filed Under (SUVs) by Jim Arnold, on 10-09-2008

by Jim Arnold,

The American trucker is the reason we live the way we do today. Without them, we do not have the groceries, the fuel, or everyday products that we need to maintain our standard of living. The American trucker is allows this country to thrive from its resources, but, due to the recent economic slowdown and high gas prices, American truckers still face a long and winding road.

The road will remain difficult for the near term as the economy and high fuel costs cannot be corrected over night. There is no way to restructure the trucking industry to mitigate the problems truckers face in the short term. In fact, truckers and the trucking industry are not to blame for their woes. And the trucking industry cannot control its immediate circumstances. The road is definitely bumpy right now, but there is hope for improvement in the medium and long term. In time truckers will earn much more than they make today.

Fuel cost increases are the most obvious culprit in causing difficulties for truckers. As fuel costs have risen, trucking companies have had to find ways to cut back. Since truck operations are their highest costs, most trucking outfits have focused their efforts are reducing the number of trucks on the road. As companies strive to get more output from fewer trucks, an inevitable side affect is that they have reduced the demand for truckers. By making fewer trucks do the work of many, trucking companies have left many truckers without work.

We are not saying the trucking industry is in danger of collapse. We are simply saying that the industry faces a difficult period of decreasing profits. But as the industry increases productivity more jobs will open. And as the overall economy improves, trucking companies will see their profits grow. And as profits grow, truckers will begin to reap the benefits through higher pay and greater availability of work.

Note that high gas prices did not immediately hurt the trucking industry ia many truckers thrived even as gas prices were on the rise. But fuel prices eventually hit a plateau which was simply to high for the industry to bare. Before the recent decline in the number of trucks on the road (and loss of trucking jobs), logistics employment numbers were quite encouraging (e.g., dump truck driving jobs totaling 12,200). As the industry begins to rebound these encouraging numbers will become commonplace once again.

High fuel costs for truckers are not the only factor that has caused recent declines in the trucking industry. Consumers spend less these days because their budgets have tightened due to the rising price of all goods and services. It is not that consumers are spending less money, they are simply getting less for the money they spend. Inflation has led to a decline in the demand for consumer products, which in turn means there is less of a demand for products to be delivered via trucks.

The decline in demand for consumer products and corresponding reduction in demand for trucking places a burden on the trucking industry. Transportation and logistics providers have been forced to adjust to the reduction in demand. Presumably the most agile and competent providers will survive the difficult times with better capabilities for quickly adjusting to changing demand. Everyone learns from their experiences and trucking companies are no exception. Expect American truckers to survive and also expect them to learn how to better deal with future difficulties when they arise.

American truckers still face a rough road ahead, but as they get over this steep economic slope, the road will improve and they will soon be speeding along toward greater prosperity. Fuel prices will decline as they always do when consumers and businesses learn to use fuel more efficiently. Trucking businesses will improve productivity and profitability. And as time goes by truckers will see pay raises and a growing job market again.

Take Financial Advantage Of The Shortage Of Truck Drivers

by Jim Arnold,

With the world economies slowing, and few thriving, the demand for goods has brought a slowdown for many jobs. At the same time, certain jobs are short of demand for employees. One of these jobs is trucking jobs. Recently, for parts of the world there is a truck driver shortage.

The war-torn Middle East has been particularly affected by a dearth of drivers, primarily due to the possibility of being caught in a cross fire while driving down the street. Due to this, many first class driver jobs are remaining unfilled. Those looking for high paying work in this field can work this to their advantage.

The truck driver shortage in Middle Eastern countries that shows the most pay is in countries such as Iraq. Truck driving jobs in Iraq have always had high demand but little applicants. The truck driver shortage in Iraq has been due to the war that is going on there.

The promise of elevated salaries has had many Americans traveling to Iraq looking for work. Truck drivers can earn much more there than they currently can here at home. If fact, drivers may just find themselves able to retire early with all the money theyave made.

There are, however, certain things that need to be taken into consideration. Rookies are not what is needed. With the danger and risk, experienced drivers are the ones who should be applying for these jobs. There is the possibility of losing your life, so Class A drivers with years of experience are really necessary.

Donat let the dangers intimidate you, however, into not taking advantage of this great opportunity. Companies who need their goods delivered are willing to pay top dollar, especially in high risk countries like Iraq. These are usually contract jobs, so moving across the world permanently is not what normally happens. The job is just for a little while, and then you will return home.

These offers can sound very tempting, but make sure youare qualified for the position. Less qualified workers have come and gone, but a golden opportunity awaits those who can really do the job. Research the opportunities and see if itas something youad really be interested in.

If you have solid qualifications, you should really check out these opportunities. Why settle for average pay when the driver shortage can be taken full advantage of? Do your homework. See whoas looking for drivers and find out whether the available jobs are permanent or temporary. If you know youare qualified, take advantage of this unique opportunity to make some good money.

Information About Commercial Truck Operation

Filed Under (SUVs) by Jim Arnold, on 09-09-2008

by Jim Arnold,

The trucking industry is responsible for transportation of raw materials and finished products. It is an important and essential branch of any economy. Their job is transportation and distribution of industrial goods as well as commercial goods. The goods are transported with the help of commercial motor vehicles and trucks like box trucks and dump trucks are used.

Operators of these vehicles are called truckers. In order to be eligible for this career, one must be at least 21 years of age in order to be permitted to drive commercially from state to state. Also, the Department of Transportation mandates that drivers pass a physical test, as well as a drug and alcohol test.

To obtain this commercial license, a candidate trucker must take both a written and driving exam to demonstrate the following: ability to read and follow traffic signs and signals; ability to complete Department of Transportation forms; comprehension of rules and regulations pertaining to the safety of commercial truck operation.

The time spent by a truck driver operating a commercial motor vehicle is governed by a set of rules known as hours of service. These rules have been framed with the aim of reducing and avoiding accidents which are caused due to driver fatigue. A truck driver is allowed to drive for 11 hours and after that he is supposed to rest for a period of ten hours. Drivers are required to keep track of driving hours in a log book and provide details in a grid where the 24 hour day is divided into slots of 15 minutes.

Compensation for truckers varies from specific job to job, and increases with experience. An entry level driver can usually expect to make $30,000 a year, quickly increasing to $50,000 to $60,000 a year with only a couple of years of experience. As in any industry, different companies offer varying wages based upon driving record, recommendations, type of truck, and difficulty of job. Some companies offer full benefits or bonuses.

Truckers are definitely currently in high demand. There is a serious lack of new drivers for this important industry. Companies have adopted new ideas and have begun to recruit in new areas they had overlooked previously. They are looking for retirees in search of a new career, veterans, and women.

To help with this shortage, some trucking companies have begun to change their rules. Instead of driving alone, truckers are now often allowed to bring a pet, or even a spouse along for the ride. Couples in their middle age or early retirement are frequent new hires as driving as a team eases the long drive and keeps families together. This arrangement has benefited both the companies and the drivers.

Trucking industry is a vital part of any economy. Any restriction on truck travel will have serious implications on the economy like decrease in availability of medicines, food, vegetables, consumer goods, fuel, cash from ATMas, waste disposal and raw materials for manufacturing companies.

Toyota 50th Anniversary: A Brief History of Toyota Trucks

Filed Under (SUVs) by Jason Lancaster on 25-08-2008

by Jason Lancaster

Toyota Motor Sales was founded in the U.S. in 1957, and in the 50 years since Toyota has grown from a small Japanese car company to one of the largest auto manufacturers in the world. The history of Toyota is the quintessential rags-to-riches story, and a big part of that story is the growth of Toyota trucks. Toyota’s 50th anniversary seems like a good time to tell the history of Toyota trucks in the U.S.

The first Toyota truck brought to the US was the 1963 Toyota LandCruiser truck. Available in small numbers for only four years in the U.S. market (1963-67), these are highly sought-after collector’s items. In addition to being imported to the US, these vehicles were produced by Toyota internationally for many years after 1967 and can be found overseas.

After importing the LandCruiser truck, Toyota began importing the “Stout” in 1964. The Stout was the father of the Toyota HiLux. Both the Stout and the HiLux that followed were available in only one configuration - a reg. cab and a 4-cylinder engine. The last year that Toyota imported the Stout was 1968, after which it was officially replaced by the Toyota Hilux Pickup.

The “HiLux” was the first Toyota truck to achieve notable sales and commercial success. The “HiLux” name, as hip as it is, was dropped from the Toyota Trucks nameplate in 1975. From that point forward, all small Toyota trucks were known as “Toyota Pickups”. The HiLux/Toyota Pickup developed rather quickly. The SR5 package was first made available in 1975. In 1979, Toyota offered a four-wheel-drive option. In 1983, to great critical acclaim, Toyota offered the “Xtra Cab” Toyota Pickup. The popularity of Toyota’s value and quality helped Toyota trucks come into their own in the 80’s, even helping them reach top cultural status. After all, Who could forget the Toyota truck in the movie Back To The Future?

In 1993, Toyota introduced their first attempt at a true full-size pickup, called the T100. Many people disliked the T100 — it was supremely lacking in terms of power for a full-sized truck — a V8 engine was not available. The truck did have some fine points, however, and there are some very loyal T100 owners who argue the T100 was one of best trucks Toyota ever made. Regardless, the T100 was a sales flop.

The generically named “Toyota Pickup” got a real name in 1995, officially labeled the Tacoma. Abbreviated as the “Taco” by some, it is revered by off-road enthusiasts everywhere as an excellent combination of performance, power, and reliability. Not surprisingly, the Tacoma is easily Toyota’s biggest sales success in the U.S. truck market. Toyota’s Tacoma was also an excellent value in the work-truck configuration, being one of the most inexpensive trucks on the market.

Toyota made another attempt at a making a full-size truck in 1999, releasing the new 2000 Tundra a year early. The new full-size Tundra featured a reasonably powerful 4.7L V8, a larger frame, bigger interior, and greater hauling and towing capabilities than the truck it replaced (the T100). When the Tundra debuted it was a decent seller and a critical hit. The new Tundra was named Motor Trend’s “Truck of The Year” in 1999, and sales topped 126k units in 2004.

Toyota released a completely re-designed Tacoma in 2004. This new, larger, “Taco” rivaled the 2004 full-size Tundra in terms of size and power, yet still honored Toyota’s compact pickup roots in terms of economy and off-road performance. The new Tacoma, while nearly as expensive as many competitor’s full-size trucks, has been nothing short of a complete success. The Tacoma is currently the best-selling compact truck on the market.

In 2007 Toyota released the 2nd generation Tundra. This new Tundra overcame all the criticism that Toyota’s full-size trucks were really only 7/8th size. The new Tundra offers the most powerful engine in it’s class, a 5.7L V8 with 381hp. The new Tundra has been extremely popular, setting full-size Toyota truck sales records. Much of the new Tundra’s success is due to it’s class-leading 10,800 lb tow rating, which is made possible by the powerful engine and advanced 6 speed automatic transmission.

What will Toyota do over the next 50 years? The short-term future is fairly clear — Toyota will probably bring out a hybrid truck, as well as the first diesel engine offered by Toyota in the US. Looking back at Toyota’s roots, there is even talk of Toyota selling a small, simple, and very inexpensive truck under the Scion brand. Toyota’s next 50 years should be just as interesting as the last 50 - that’s for sure.
